What exactly is the Jeunesses Med event?
Every 18 months, the Jeunesses Med network organizes a meeting bringing together 80 young people from 17 countries around the Mediterranean (Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Morocco, Palestine, Portugal, Spain, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey) in a Mediterranean city. All these young people have one thing in common: they are active in the civil societies of their respective countries, whether through associations, collectives or personal initiatives.
Following on from the meetings in Paris (October 2015), Casablanca (April 2017), Algiers (April 2018), Tunis (April 2019), Marseille (November 2021), and Beirut (November 2022), the 7th annual meeting of the Jeunesses Med network will take place in Reggio Calabria (Italy) from June 12 to 15, 2024.
This year, the Mediterranean city was chosen, as the Calabria region is severely affected by youth emigration and the lack of job opportunities for young people. Despite these conditions, a strong network of associations has been maintained, and the region now ranks first in Italy in terms of the number of entrepreneurs and public administrators under the age of 40. Located in the Messina basin, Reggio Calabria is also the geographic center of the Mediterranean. The choice of this city for our meeting is therefore highly symbolic.
The aim of these meetings is to enable young Mediterranean people to discuss and exchange ideas, and to take part in various themed activities and a public debate over 4 days in a Mediterranean city. These encounters enable young people to develop links between themselves and between their countries, encourage the sharing of knowledge and skills, and promote the discovery of Mediterranean territories.
The highlight of the year for the Jeunesses Med network, this meeting is an essential, unifying event for young people from all over the Mediterranean basin!
See you soon in Reggio!
